Pada tanggal 9-11 Mei 2016, Departemen Teknik Nuklir dan Teknik Fisika FT-UGM menyelenggarakan Workshop on Small Modular Reactor Design and Technology Assessment for Embarking Countries, dengan nara sumber expert dari Badan Tenaga Atom Internasional atau International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), yaitu Dr. M. Hadid Subki, Project Manager, SMR Technology Development, Section of Nuclear Power Technology Development, Division of Nuclear Power, Department of Nuclear Energy, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria. Workshop ini diikuti oleh para dosen dan mahasiswa tingkat akhir Teknik Nuklir, para ahli dari Badan Tenaga Nukllir Nasional (BATAN), serta Badan Pengawas Tenaga Nuklir (BAPETEN).
Topik yang disampaikan oleh expert dari IAEA meliputi:
- Update on Global Nuclear Power Reactor Design Development and Deployment
- Advances in Near Term Deployable Land-Based Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Technology Development for Emerging Countries
- Design and Safety Features of Marine-Based SMR Technology Development for Cogeneration and Specific Sites/Regions
- Design Safety Considerations for Water Cooled SMRs (both Land and Marine-Based) incorporation Lessons Learned from the Fukushima Daiichi Accident
- Overview of Licensing and Regulatory Framework required for SMR Development in Emerging/Developing Countries
- Proliferation Resistance and Physical Protection (PR&PP) in Innovative SMR Design Concepts
