The UGM contingent from the Engineering Physics Study Program consisted of Mavilda Islami Hazni, Aditya Diaz N, and Billy together with their supervisor, Dr. Nur Abdillah Siddiq, ST won the Third Winner at The 10 th Sudirman Science Competition held by General Sudirman University. This event will be held on July 2 – September 26, 2021. Sudirman Science Competition 2021 is a national level competition held annually by the Reasoning and Research UKM of Jendral Sudirman University.
The competition begins with the collection of full papers on August 16, 2021 for selection. Then, the announcement of the 15 teams that passed to the Final stage to take part in the Paper presentation session and video presentation collection on September 15, 2021. After the presentation session, a question and answer session was held by 3 judges regarding the Scientific Work that had been made on September 18, 2021. Then the announcement of the top 3 was made on September 26, 202 in conjunction with the national seminar, which was still in a series of events with the activities of The 10 th Sudirman Science Competition .
In the competition, Mavilda and his team proposed an idea with the title “Design of a Human-Oriented Smart Home with the Implementation of a Building Energy Management System”. The background of the idea is the demographic bonus that occurred in Indonesia and was followed by an increase in the need for housing and also the consumption of electrical energy. Residential buildings are one of the sectors that consume the most electrical energy. For this reason, it is necessary to have a smart home system with a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that can monitor and control energy use so that energy use in the household sector can be used optimally. BEMS operations are carried out by developing an energy saving implementation strategy with Model Based Predictive Control(MBPC) which can be used for HVAC ( Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning ) and lighting systems . The overall use of BEMS can save 44% of energy in the HVAC system and has a large energy saving potential for other needs.
When asked what was the most memorable thing during the competition, Mavilda as the team leader explained, “During the question and answer session, we were nervous because we heard the jury’s questions in the previous group which could be said to be very critical and detailed, but because we wrote this paper with full We are confident that we can answer the jury’s questions smoothly, so that up to the question and answer session, we managed to answer all the jury’s questions smoothly.” “We are determined to continue to do useful activities, improve our abilities and continue to participate in other competitions until we win them,” added Mavilda regarding the plans that he will do in the future.
