Team Led by Engineering Physics Students Won 1st Place in International Oil and Gas Poster Competition

The Sasa team won 1st place in the Oil and Gas Infographic Poster Competition which was held at the 2022 International Oil and Gas Poster Competition (IOGPC) . This event was held by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia SPE Student Chapter . This team is chaired by Sasa Aulia (Engineering Physics 2020) with members Enyca Aidina (Geological Engineering 2020) and Khoirunnasi Rudin (Engineering Physics 2020). The competition that was followed featured 7 finalist teams from Gadjah Mada University (2 teams), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (3 teams), and Diponegoro University (1 team) and the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology Surabaya (2 teams). IOGPC 2022 has 2 sub competitions, namely Poster Competition and Software Workshop & Competition. IOGPC 2022 begins with abstract submission on February 4, 2022 and the final presentation of the finalists on March 2-3, 2022.

The poster competition is a forum for all students to develop and make innovations in the fields of science and technology, especially for the advancement of the oil and gas industry. This competition will collect research and analysis of students in a certain scope of study from various universities around the world to be presented in front of the jury. Students will be able to share their research as well as feedback from a panel of experienced judges to further enhance their future research.

Tim Sasa’s work entitled Integrated Nitrogen Fracturing-CO2 EOR (INFOR): A Promising Solution to Drive Attractive Oil and Gas Production Rates in Unconventional Liquid Reservoirs contains innovations in the practice of  nitrogen fracturing  in the oil and gas exploration process from unconventional oil sources. The purpose of this research is to save water use and replace it with  cryogenic materials which will increase oil and gas production. In addition, the Sasa Team’s innovation also provides an alternative to  proppant  using lighter materials so that it can produce hydrocarbons that can increase oil production.

Integrated Nitrogen Fracturing-CO2 EOR (INFOR)against the background of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reserves reaching large amounts with a ratio of approximately 2:8 creating a paradigm shift in finding and utilizing unconventional hydrocarbons and their resources for energy needs because of their very large amounts. In addition, the primary production mechanism no longer transfers oil to the hydraulic gap. As a result, the need to improve recovery strategies to increase oil removal from the matrix, maintain reasonable production levels, and maximize final oil recovery is critical. Commonly used hydraulic fracturing is not environmentally friendly and consumes a lot of water. The mean annual water volumes from hydraulically fractured oil and gas wells are 15,275 and 19,425 m 3. So that the Integrated Nitrogen Fracturing-CO2 EOR (INFOR) is proposed in the hope that it can solve this problem.

The Sasa team hopes that the innovation can be thoroughly researched and applied to oil and gas fields to increase oil and gas production, especially in unconventional fields in Indonesia that do not yet have oil and gas technology for unconventional sources.
