At least 200 students from various universities across the country are taking part in the Nuclear Youth Summit (NYS) 2013 in Yogyakarta with the aim of encouraging the use of nuclear technology for the welfare of the people.
“NYS is expected to serve as a forum to share information and scientific knowledge among youth as the potential future leaders and scientists,” said chairman of the National Nuclear Youth Community (Kommun) Akhmad Aji Wijayanto on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The three-day NYS 2013 to end on Saturday will be highlighted with general lectures given by nuclear scientists, including Dr. H. Holger Rogner and Mika Tanhuanpaa from Finland, followed by a nuclear discussion and a competition on paper compiling and a presentation, Akhmad said.
The competition on paper compiling will discuss issues related to nuclear research, nuclear human resources in Indonesia, the public perception of nuclear technology and prospects for the use of nuclear technology in the future.
Kommun, which was established on Feb.11, has 80 members from various educational institutions in Java and other islands, such as Gadjah Mada University, the University of Indonesia, the Bandung Institute of Technology and Nuclear Technology Institute.
